Last Day in Santa Cruz

In the early morning we all woke up to catch a ferry to go back to Santa Cruz. We were all sleepy and a little tired.

After arriving, we went to have breakfast at the hotel “La Peregrina”, then got ready for our hike to Tortuga Bay. The trail went through the national park and we saw a lot of cactus and other plants and how they had adapted to the island. When we arrived at the beach we walked to “Playa mansa” where we tried to snorkel, unfortunately the water wasn’t that clear to see anything, so we went to a little natural pool called “El pocito” where we saw baby fish and a shark. 

On the way back to our stuff we saw a baby hammerhead swimming in the shallows and stopped to watch it. After swimming for a while we went to sit in a shade and had lunch from the bento box. We stayed for another hour and then started the hike back, and on the way we saw a huge pile of iguanas cooling down in the shade. We also saw lots of lava lizards and shore birds on the hike back. 

After we got back we showered and went shopping for souvenir and gifts, then stopped for ice cream before dinner. After dinner we had an amazing graduation ceremony from the EPI program, with some sea lions as guests. 

At the end of the day, we all came back to the hotel to pack all our stuff and have our last day on Galapagos island.

Long first day in Isabela

 We started off on our trip from Santa Cruz to Isabela with an early start, waking up at an early 4:45 am. We grabbed our stuff and loaded into a a farm truck and rode up to our bus. We got to the loading dock and waited in lines watching the water and getting to see cool animals such as birds, sea lions, and black tip reef sharks.🦭🦜🦈  We got on a taxi bus that then took us to our boat, the wolf, that we would then be on for a bumpy two hours. Most of us slept but those of us who weren’t as lucky (me) watched out the window at the passing islands. After arriving at Isabela Island we went straight to the Tero Real hostel where we ate a yummy breakfast of eggs and crossaints. Then we all headed down to the beach and had a few hours of swimming. We got to go to the beach

“Yesterday we were informed that our tour group the ecos foundation heard our pleas to go to the beach and we were able to go this morning. At the beach we went snorkeling and saw many cool fish like the yellowtail damselfish and many different types of parrrotfish. We then learned about how the ecosystem is all connected through all of us. We went snorkeling again which featured lots of different animals like sting rays. As we were trying to exit the ocean after snorkeling a sea lion blocked the path to the beach, and crawled up right next to us. There were many marine iguanas on the beach which is cool because I learned today that Godzilla was modeled after them. After the beach we went to the Darwin Foundation Museum where we saw fascinating preserved corals and many tortoise shells of different species. We also got some ice cream there. Great night- ready for field work

Themes of yesterday: arrival, warm, settling, learning to bathe with spider friends, swing of delight (with safety focus), sleep quality: varied! Frequent disorientation due to vegetation between campsite and banjo! Ready to be working with tortoises today - if they decide to say hello!
